Ledgerline.

About this project

Ledgerline publishes general information about Irish pensions for people working independently, including freelancers, contractors and sole traders.

Why we created this website

When My Future Fund launched in January 2026, it brought most employees into a workplace pension automatically. The self-employed were left out: no employer, no auto-enrolment, no state top-up. Saving for retirement is still possible and often tax-efficient, but you have to set it up yourself, and the rules are not easy to find in plain English.

We explain PRSAs, age-related tax-relief limits, questions to raise with providers and key dates in straightforward language.

Who is behind Ledgerline

Ledgerline is an independent information project.

Our approach to checking information

Our guides draw on primary sources, and we aim to revisit them after each Budget. If a qualified financial adviser independently reviews a guide, we will identify that review here.
